National News: A large accident occurred at Bardhaman railway station on Sunday evening when a stampede broke out during a rush of passengers. Railway officials said that at least 10 to 12 people were hurt in the chaos. Six of the injured, including men and women, were admitted to Bardhaman Medical College and Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Crowded Platforms Trigger Panic

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened when three trains were at platforms 4, 6, and 7 at almost the same time. Passengers rushed hurriedly up and down the stairs of the foot overbridge that connects platforms 4 and 6 to catch their trains.

Stampede on Narrow Staircase

The narrow staircase became too crowded, and as the crowd pushed, panic broke out, causing a stampede. Several passengers fell, and others were trampled while trying to move through the dense crowd. Chaos and fear spread quickly across the station.

Rescue and Inquiry

Railway rescue and relief teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and shifted the injured to the hospital. Officials said an inquiry has been started to find out the cause of the accident and check for lapses in crowd management.
